Designed to help you develop a new set of knowledge, skills and capabilities to lead and manage in a changing world.
Our courses provide high level academic and practice-based development for participants to become leaders in their profession.
The flipped classroom model
Reading material, references and study activities are provided on the course Moodle and are completed by students before their weekly tutorial. This enables students to meet each other and their tutor on-line in tutorials and discuss their conclusions, ask questions, test their skills and interact with each other. Students benefit from the extended knowledge of the group and the experience of their tutor, and help to create a collaborative learning community.
Study load
Part-time students on both the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma study two subjects at a time, each semester; full-time students study four subjects at a time, each semester. Each subject involves around 8 hours of reading and studying using the course materials delivered on-line via the Moodle, followed by a 1 hour tutorial on-line using Adobe Connect. Students may also book one-to-one consultations with their tutors about any aspect of their study, during pre-arranged consultation periods each week.
Collaborative learning community
The flipped classroom model means that students don’t spend their tutorials going through the course materials and can instead concentrate on critically analyzing what they’ve learned and reflecting on its application to themselves and their workplace in conversation with their peers. Student feedback indicates that they feel part of an engaged learning community through the tutorial sessions and group work. The blended delivery model allows participants to develop relationships with their fellow students and benefit from the exchange of information that this allows, and prevents the sense of isolation sometimes experienced by students of fully on-line courses.
Expectations
Students complete a number of assessments for each subject, combining formal reports with group work, self-assessments and case studies. To get the most out of tutorials students are encouraged to complete the mixture of core and optional learning activities available on the Moodle: coming to tutorials with the reading work already done allows students to apply their learning effectively and develop their high-level critical and analytical skills.
